Know Your Domestic Supply System

Your gas supply system comprises of saddle, R.C.C. guard, control valve, gas tap, gas meter, regulator etc. Some of the major components have been highlighted below.

Buried polyethylene pipes

The polyethylene pipes (pressurized at maximum 2.2 bar) are buried at a safe and secure depth of one meter below the ground level. Please make sure that the pipes are not damaged, especially during digging and construction work.

The riser pipe (G.I. pipe)

This is an external connection on the building to each apartment. Each riser pipe (G.I. pipe) has a riser Isolation valve. Please make sure that it should not be tampered at any time.

The control valve

Fitted in each installation, the control valve is between the RCC guard and the Regulator. In case of installation in apartments, the valve is fitted at the entry point of each house. In case you suspect a leakage, shut off this valve immediately. Also, if you are going to be away from home for a long period, please make sure that this valve has been shut off.

The regulator (OPSO)

Installed before the metre, the regulator reduces the gas pressure from 2.2 bar to 24 mbar and ensures desired flow of gas into your gas burner. In case of apartments, higher flow capacity regulators are installed to cater to all the customers on the riser. This regulator is installed after the riser isolation valve and contains safety devices for protection against high- pressure gas flowing through the riser.

The gas tap

This tap switches on/off the gas to burning appliance. Shut this tap when appliance is not in use.
