GGCL started its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) operation in 1992, 1st CNG station of India was set in Surat. Additional 2 mobile stations were added in 1995-96. All these CNG stations were owned, operated and maintained by GGCL. Major thrust in this area started in 2004 since then the number of CNG stations has gone up to and reached to 45 with a user base of 1,75,757 customers. CNG operations are on franchisee operated model where Franchisee owns the CNG station and carry out day to today operations.
CNG is Natural Gas compressed & stored in cascades to a pressure of 200 to 250 bar. It is dispensed to vehicles at high pressure of 200 bar to increase on board storage. A CNG station is a site consisting of interconnected equipments designed to compress Natural Gas to a high pressure and store the CNG in cylinder cascades which is then dispensed through dispensers to natural gas vehicles for refueling.
