What is Cogeneration (COGEN)?
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) or Cogeneration is the simultaneous generation of  usable heat and electricity in a single process. That is, cogeneration uses exhaust heat that is otherwise discarded from conventional power generation to produce thermal energy. This heat energy, with the help of equipment, can be converted into more usable forms such as steam, chilled water or hot water that can be utilised in the process requirement by industrial facilities, commercial establishments etc. The gas-based CHP technology is robust and the gensets are designed to operate continuously for a minimum of 8000 to 8300 hours per annum (333 to 345 days per annum).

GGCL’s COGEN Business
GGCL is India’s largest private gas distribution and transmission company. It has a pipeline network of more than 2,000 kilometers supplying approximately three million standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) of Natural Gas to more than two lakh domestic and industrial customers in the highly industrialised regions of Surat, Ankleshwar and Bharuch. In order to move up the value chain, GGCL has targeted power as one of its growth vehicle.

A dedicated Natural Gas based Captive Power Plant has been set up to provide energy services to the industrial units of Gujarat.  Within two years of its operation, the team has successfully installed 18.02 MW at various industrial units within Gujarat.
